Is There an Easy Way to Check Your Brakes

At one time, brakes were made of springs and drums that were hard to inspect with the naked eye. Today, the dominant brake system is the disc brake which is simple to observe. Though a simple look is not considered an expert inspection, it can give you enough information to decide whether a professional inspection is warranted.

If you look through your wheel spokes, you can see your brake pads next to the wheel hub. These are the pads that apply friction to your wheels to bring your vehicle to a stop. If you can see a quarter-inch or more of the pad, you are safe. If you see less than a quarter-inch, you should consider taking your vehicle in for a complete brake inspection.

At our service center here at Junge Center Point in Center Point, IA, we inspect your brake pads for excessive wear and recommend replacement when necessary.
